It is said that you can either become a villain or as a hero. Christian Bale is now a villain, this time for Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder. A formidable antagonist. The plot follows the comic-book storyline and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is back. Then there’s the quirky humour unique to director Taika Waititi. Love and Thunder is a standalone film that does not compare to Thor: Ragnarok (2017).

Thor has been a major part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade, but his individual films either failed to hit the mark completely or did not hit the bullseye. Thor: The Dark World (2013) was a lousy entry. Thor: The Origins Story (2011) was a great start. And yet, anyone’s list of top five MCU films will include Thor: Ragnarok (2017) absolutely. The return of the Hemsworth-Taika Waititi collaboration meant that expectations were sky-high ahead of the film’s release.
Gorr (Bale) Gorr (Bale), a god who wants to wipe out all gods attacks New Asgard to steal Stormbreaker. Thor must stop the god-killer by joining with Tessa Thompson, Korg (Waititi), and Jane Foster, his ex-girlfriend and now Mighty Thor. The story is easy to follow, unlike recent Marvel movies, and the actors are great in the film. Hemsworth is a great choice for the character who has the midlife crisis, however Bale and Portman are the most notable. As evidence of Bale’s abilities, the pre-title credit scene stands. Gorr might be the next Thanos for the MCU which is in desperate need of good superheroes, and Bale has a distinct that eerie quality to the character but there’s no amount more.
Portman plays Mjolnir’s cancerous ex-girlfriend. Since Marvel seems to be keen on handing over the mantles of Hawkeye and, in a couple of months, Hulk, to women characters, I was expecting that the Mighty Thor to be a identical tick mark on the representation checklist. The film tells an emotional story about the astrophysicist, who is able to show her biceps in more than one.
Marvel also offers its own stretching out in all its cameos. We also see the Guardians of the Galaxy cast which includes Sam Neill and Matt Damon reprising their roles as Thor: Ragnarok’s Loki, Odin and Thor as well as Thor. Additionally, we see Melissa McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone playing Hela and the director of an Asgardian play and the director of the play. Waititi is now Ragnarok directed Oscar-winning Jojo Rabbit, is back in his most loved genre. It’s funny to look at the likes of a couple of loud goats as well as Korg’s narration about Thor’s backstory. Thor does leg-splits. Valkyrie becomes Old Spice’s ambassador.

Thor: Love and Thunder is a film that explores many kinds of love–ranging from a father-daughter bond to the complicated romantic relationship of estranged lovers… It’s an analogy between Gorr losing his faith in his god, Rapu, and Thor becoming disappointed with Zeus (played by Russell Crowe). There are many theories but…
There are numerous Easter eggs and even callbacks to films like Interstellar and Harry Potter. A shot of Falligar, the god who died depicted straight from comics. We can see Hemsworth wearing the original Thor costume that comic book lovers will recognise. When he is fighting Zeus, Thor reveals his true colours. We also see a tattoo reading ‘RIP Loki which has the helmet of the trickster etched on our Viking’s back. We’re introduced the deadly Necrosword and, given that Mjolnir and Stormbreaker appear to have minds of their own It’s fascinating to see the weapons shown to possess the strength to control individuals.
The scene we were shown with Shang Chi’s ten rings, Ms Marvel’s magical Bangle as well as the Ebony blade in the Eternals post-credits scene. The quote “Gods don’t empower you but they will use the power of God to help you” from Marvel’s new show, Moonknight, feels very similar to the real world. A bit of Valkyrie’s loss in battle to her closest friend as well as Korg getting married to another Kronan man is included.
The first half of the film reminds us of all the colors we enjoyed in Ragnarok, but much of the second part takes place in the dark world, where everything is predominantly black and white. The action scenes in monochrome can be very satisfying and should be noted.
Hemsworth continues to play Thor Hemsworth will continue to play Thor, which is a welcome relief for MCU fans who’ve witnessed the original Avengers die or hang their heads.
